Dr. Nicholas Pegge : Cardiologist

CARDIAC MRI, CT AND OTHER SCANS OF THE HEART

Increasingly, traditional exercise testing is complemented or occasionally superseded by scanning techniques which can in some patients be more appropriate for the assessment of whether heart muscle is generally getting adequate blood supply, and in other patients, show details about heart muscle structure and function, and information about major blood vessels near or attached to the heart.

There are a number of different alternatives, which are selected for specific patients on individual clinical grounds.

Dr Pegge’s patients usually undergo their cardiac MRI at Worthing hospital Radiology Department, or for some specialist indications, at the cardiac MRI unit at the Brompton Hospital, London. Cardiac CT can be performed at St Richard’s Hospital, Chichester or at the Brompton. Radionuclide perfusion scanning may be perfomed at The Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton or at the Brompton.
