Surgery for ischaemic heart disease has advanced hugely over the last couple of decades. Success rates are high, and are published openly.
Most of Dr Pegge's patients who are referred for cardiac surgery have extensive coronary artery disease affecting two or all three coronary arteries, and surgery can be performed at the Sussex Cardiac Centre in Brighton, or at centres in London.
Decisions about the optimal strategy, whether angioplasty or surgery, for Dr Pegge's patients respect that individual patient's preference, and take account of discussions at multi-disciplinary meetings involving other cardiologists and cardiac surgeons for complex cases.
